Marjorie Margolies at the Pen & Pencil Club

Join us for a conversation with Marjorie Margolies on Wednesday, Nov. 16.

Margolies is a best-selling author of five books, an Emmy-award winning journalist, former member of Congress, and the first single American to adopt internationally. From Olympic- recruited broad-jumper to award-winning reporter, Margolies shares the arc of her remarkable career in her new memoir, And How Are the Children? She’ll talk with us off-the-record about her book, the nonprofit she heads and her take on the 2022 midterm results.

The event is free and members can bring guests but please register here.

More on Marjorie's new book:

Born in Philadelphia, where she resides to this day, Margolies wanted to offer a loving home to hard-to-
place orphans from war-torn countries. As an unmarried television reporter she began by adopting two
little girls from Vietnam and Korea. Then, in a twinkling, there were eleven. Following her marriage to
Rep. Ed Mezvinsky (D-IA), Margolies found herself the mother of a multi-cultural, multi-religious, multi-
hued family that included five refugee children, four step daughters and two biological sons. Balancing a
non-traditional family with a television career combined with the life of a Congressional spouse proved
her mettle and resilience.

After a stint with CBS and 25 years with NBC, Margolies was elected to the U.S. Congress as a Democrat
from a historically Republican district of suburban Philadelphia, making her the first woman elected from
Pennsylvania in her own right. She devoted her time in office as an advocate for womens’ issues. She has
continued that work as the president of Women’s Campaign International, a nonprofit she founded to
empower women and train leaders around the world. She has traveled to over 50 countries teaching
women to mobilize their communities and engage politically. WCI has yielded phenomenal success
including doubling the number of women in parliaments around the world.

Besides breaking down historic boundaries, Margolies has had to deal with heartbreaking tragedies
including divorce and the death of one of her children. Her intention in writing this book is for women of
every generation to recognize themselves in her story and learn how to nurture themselves and the life
decisions they have made.
