Gauthier shocked the Philadelphia political world in 2019 when she unseated longtime incumbent Jannie Blackwell in the Democratic primary for West Philly's District 3. A former executive director of the Fairmount Park Conservancy and the Sustainable Business Network, Gauthier has built a reputation as one of the most progressive members of Council. She had a high-profile role during the Black Lives Matter protests last summer, even getting Mayor Kenney on the phone with a young activist during a stand-off with police.
